Study: NSAID before implant surgery reduces post-op pain

Postoperative pain is a reason some patients avoid implant treatment. But would taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) 15 minutes before surgery reduce patients' pain afterward? Researchers put this theory to the test.

I found the article interesting but was curious about the concern about patients not wanting implants due to the pain.  I have found if placing the implant is routine.  Meaning good bone straight forward placement with no adjunctive treatment the patient rarely has any post operative pain.  Many times I will tell the patient they can go back to work the next day.  My concern is that if the implants are not placed per standard protocol then the patient will have considerable pain.  Thus, you can consider a few assumptions. One, is the implants are not being placed appropriately and they need pre-op and post-op pain meds or two, the implants are being placed appropriately which should illicit no or minimal pain and therefore causes the study to be ineffective.  A better study is with tooth extraction which traditionally produces post-op pain.  Though, these studies have already been done, additional studies and always welcome.
